Access Accounts unveils Dimensions 360 – “A better solution all round’


Access Accounting has announced a significant enhancement to its Dimensions SQL Server business software.

 

Launched in March 2004, Dimensions 360 enables companies to view their accounts information in a faster and more efficient way.  It does this by providing a one-stop, ‘pop-up’ enquiry window, overlaid onto the standard record screen.

 

This 360 window brings all round visibility to key business activities, such as buying and selling.  It contains a simple yet comprehensive summary of everything connected with the selected item.

 

For example, in the case of a purchase invoice, the 360 window will automatically display header and detail information on:

 

  • The original purchase order
  • All goods received notes
  • Associated stock movements (including locations and serial numbers)
  • Any cost updates to related project records

At this level, Dimensions 360 is ideal for use by forward-facing departments, particularly those dealing with large numbers of routine enquiries (such as Customer Services).  It enables most questions to be answered immediately, without the need to move any deeper into the system.

 

But the 360 window also allows each individual aspect or strand of the process to be investigated in far greater detail.  And it does so in two different ways.

 

                                                                                                        

Firstly, users can jump straight from the 360 window to a full transaction enquiry screen.  In the example above, these shortcuts could be used to reveal the original purchase order and goods received notes in their entirety.

 

Secondly, users can also access Smart Tag summaries from within the 360 window.  These summaries – which contain pre-formatted graphs, trends, statistics and analysis – enable users to see the ‘bigger picture’.  They reveal how the selected record is performing over time, or in comparison with other records of that type.

 

This high level information is ideal for the more senior manager or decision-maker.  (Smart Tags are available on all major record types, including customers, suppliers and stock.)

 

By carefully layering information in this way, users with vastly differing levels of IT experience and accounting knowledge can all get the answers they need from the same location, with no risk of confusion.  For simple enquiries, one click of the mouse is sufficient.  For more complicated enquiries, just two clicks are needed.

 

In today's service-driven environment, the central issue is speed of information.  This system embraces the idea of bringing information to the user and takes it to its logical conclusion.  The outcome is a system that enables users to respond to every type of enquiry with greater speed and confidence than ever before.
